We are looking for someone who is passionate about pursuing First Nations justice to lead Victoria Legal Aid’s First Nations strategic advocacy, policy, and reform work in partnership with key Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and stakeholders.
- Full-time ongoing position (part-time (0.8 FTE) applications considered)
- Salary based on experience, range: $123,625 – $157,340 (pro rata) plus super
- Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model
About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a Manager for Policy, Advocacy and Reform to join our First Nations Services team. The role will work closely with First Nations staff, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), and other key stakeholders to improve First Nations justice in Victoria. As the Manager, you will lead strategic advocacy and reform efforts, build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders, provide expert advice to integrate First Nations voices in organisational practices and manage projects that align with our long-term goals.
This is a special measures role and only First Nations people are eligible to apply, as per the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country; however, let us know if you’d prefer to work at one of our other VLA offices across Victoria.
About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with First Nations communities and stakeholders to set and pursue strategic advocacy priorities aimed at addressing systemic racism and disadvantage.
- Proven ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels, and to influence and negotiate effectively to drive service innovation and growth and lead law reform initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, well-researched reports and advice.
- Strong organisational abilities with the capacity to develop and prioritize strategic priorities effectively.
- Tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in law, public policy, or a related field (highly desirable).
