About the role:
The First Nations Employment Consultant (FNEC) sits in VLA’s First Nations Services team and will work closely and collaboratively with First Nations staff and key staff in People and Workplace Services (PAWS) to:
- Develop and implement a range of First Nations pathway programs and professional development opportunities for both legal and non-legal VLA roles, in partnership with People and Workplace Services (PAWS).
- Establish and maintain networks across Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, government, schools and universities, and other key stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration and inform effective recruitment strategies.
- Ensure the availability of culturally appropriate and responsive supports for First Nations staff, including by strengthening the operation and governance of VLA’s First Nations Staff Network and establishing an Aunties and Uncles Cultural Mentoring Program.
- Provide support and guidance to VLA staff through the development of toolkits and guidelines aimed at recruiting, retaining, and supporting First Nations people at all stages of their employment at VLA.
- Coordinate the implementation and review of VLA’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy 2020-25 (AES).
- You will partner will colleagues in PAWS, First Nations Services, managers and other VLA staff to meet our shared goals for workforce representation and the development and support of First Nations staff. You will assist the organisation to strengthen our capability to attract, select, onboard and retain staff in a culturally safe and supportive way.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country and at VLA offices located throughout Victoria.
